A Certain Design

There is a lot to be said for choosing the style of your kitchen to be all white. It brings in a lot of brightness to what might be an otherwise dark area of the home.

However, too much white can cause some eyestrain and may make your home boring. As such, you may need to put a little more thought into your kitchen.

What else can you utilize to make sure the area isn’t just a glaring white that causes an immediate headache for anyone who enters the space? To bring your home design up a few notches, consider some of these tips for adding personality to that white kitchen.

1. Cabinets

One of the first elements you should consider is your cabinets. They take up a lot of space on the wall in some kitchens and thus could be the perfect place to start adding in a bit of personality. One aspect of the cabinets that you might want to consider are the handles.

You can have a lot of fun with these, especially in a white space. Why not include a black or bold dark color to contrast with the white cabinet? Not only will this make the handle itself easier to see but it can create a dimension that’s more pleasant to the eye.

You may also want to consider the design of the cabinet as a whole. Are they just blocky squares or rectangles?

Why not have some fun with it and play around with asymmetrical aesthetics? Just because you’ve opted for a more sterile and minimalistic aesthetic doesn’t mean you can’t have a little fun with how the shapes of the kitchen appear. By adding in unique cabinets you can change the entire home design.

Lighting should be played with, too. Under cabinet lighting has especially become big for some designers.

While bright lighting will look even better in the all-white space, you might want to play around with some colored lighting. See how it looks against the color and determine if a bit of colored lighting is just what you need to bring some personality into the space.

2. Countertops

Another place that you can utilize to add personality to your kitchen is with the selection of countertops. Similar to the cabinets, you can play around a bit with the color scheme here. Quartz countertops come in varying colors and shades.

For those who want their natural stone to compliment the all-white aesthetic, you can typically find quartz that is lighter in color. However, the different shade could provide the perfect amount of dichotomy to give your eye a break from all of the bright coloring.

In addition, natural stone and quartz are extremely durable. For those who are concerned about the durability and longevity of their countertops, then natural stone is an added security since it can last for a long time. It’s also easy to keep clean, so the surface will always be shining and look just as elegant as the rest of the area.

You might also consider using a slab of natural stone in a few selected areas. For example, having a quartz island while leaving the rest of the other countertops as the same color can make a beautiful statement.

The same can be said if you choose to keep the island the same color but use the quartz as a few slabs that make up your countertops. This alternating texture and appearance can add a great deal of personality into the room. The natural stone adds beauty to the kitchen and makes it look more eye-catching and sleek.

One last aspect of natural stone, in particular, is using it for handles. Carefully polished quartz can be used for handles on those cabinets as mentioned earlier to offer dimensional space. It adds just a pop of color to harmonize the space.

3. Flooring

In keeping with the all-white kitchen, you may choose to do an off-white flooring. In this way, again, the idea is to create dimension and personality.

Whether you want to use marble or just have laminated flooring, the choice is up to you. However, there may be a unique opportunity for those who are a fan of the modern rustic style of home design.

By taking reclaimed wood, you can paint it an off-white color and use that for flooring. It maintains that all-white appearance you desire all while adding in some wood to your home for a farmhouse and modern rustic sort of aesthetic.

You can further add to this by including other off-white and weathered items in the room like baskets and hanging lights.

Quartz, too, might be something you consider for the flooring. Whether you include a single slab of it in the center of the room or you alternate with tiles, you can create an entirely unique flooring to your home.

This home design is singular and quite professional in its concept. It also adds some narrative and personality to the space around it.

For those who don’t want to change the flooring itself, you may instead choose to add in a trim that surrounds the floor. This trim could utilize that off-white wooden rustic look as mentioned before. Perhaps you might even want to try and see what quartz might look like as a trim. Essentially, by adding in a trim, you can separate the floor space from the rest of the space and add both personality and dimension to the room.

4. Backsplash

Another opportunity to add personality to the room is with a properly chosen backsplash. For those who wish to keep with an all-white aesthetic, then you might want to go with the other variations of the color like cream or ivory.

There are plenty of shades that you can utilize to bring a bit of interest into the room.

For those who don’t mind a few splashes of color, then you may want to try a backsplash that has a minimalistic design imprinted upon it. Black, for example, would do well to add in just a bit of personality without completely changing the aesthetic of all-white. A small symbol or even just edged of black for the backsplash might be all you need.

To really bring some personality, however, then choose a backsplash with some bold colors. Blue, red, green, anything goes with the all-white aesthetic that you’ve created. You don’t have to make the entire backsplash that color either.

A single tile of the bold color surrounded by all-white tiles could be just the hint of personality that makes the space enjoyable. This home design can be a lot of fun to play around with, so don’t be afraid to take out a few samples of colors and see what you can make.

Quartz, too, can be used as a backsplash. Again, you can choose varying shades of it in keeping with the desired style of the room, but the beautiful design of quartz itself adds a beautiful dose of personality and narrative wherever you place it.

Experiment

Focusing in on these key areas, you can do a lot of experimentation and have fun playing around to determine what looks best with the all-white design. Whether you choose to play with shape, color, or accessories, you can bring in significant personality easily.
