How to Make a Mattress Firmer: Top 8 Tips

Source:

Having a firm bed may also be better for your health. Keep in mind that you sleep on your mattress for (preferably) eight hours each night. Throughout a life, that is one-third of your life spent sleeping.

Maintaining the spine in the right position, whether sleeping on your side or on your back, is quite essential for maintaining the health of your entire body. This research even explores the notion that firmer bedding can improve sleep quality, lessen back pain, and reduce stress.

Keep all these concerns in mind we explore the various options you have when it comes to creating your mattress more firm.

1. Maintain the Bedding Smooth and Flat:

Remember to use a sheet of appropriate size on your bed. Stretch it tight from side to side and top to bottom, so the bed sheet is applying some pressure to the mattress and is placed flat over it.

Doing this could firm up the bed enough to your needs. Otherwise, a tight, flat sheet will make it more probable that a number of the tips below will work for you.

2. Use Difficult Support:

Your mattress may feel tender if it does not have enough support. If your bed is lying on a box spring construction, or some other sprung surface, then it might not have sufficient support to promote stability.

If you place a sheet of 3/8″ or particle board or plywood between the mattress and the box spring, then your mattress will have more support and will feel firmer. If you do that, make sure that the plywood is precisely the same width and length as the mattress.

Too short will result in an overhang whereas too big could lead to personal injury on the protruding wood. Ensure to sand the edges smooth and round the corners of the board to prevent damage to the mattress or yourself!

3. Consider Your Room Temperature:

Some substances, like 100% memory foam or visionary polyurethane foam can be temperature sensitive. We have even heard of pure memory foam cooling solid if left in a super cold atmosphere!

Consider customizing your thermostat on your bedroom into a lower temperature, or perhaps open a window and keep the fan running and see if that is making your mattress a little firmer. Likewise, warmer temperatures might make your mattress softer.

4. Use a Mattress Topper:

Soft bedding can usually be made firmer with a mattress topper. There are a variety of mattress toppers, the most popular being a tough wired or, even better for a few, memory foam. Memory foams come in different levels of hardness, and you can pick one that suits your requirements.

Such toppers are just a few inches thick, normally 2″ – 6″, providing the memory foam effect for those who enjoy it. As an alternative, you can pick a natural latex or polyurethane foam of proper firmness. Pads are thinner, full of polyester or other material and aren’t as successful as toppers.

5. Consider Your Box Spring:

Box springs can wear out with continued use. If they lose strength, they provide less support to your mattress than they can, that can make your mattress feel soft.

Replacing a box spring is generally not more expensive than replacing a mattress, and can help harden up your bed.

6. Mold and Mildew &Dampness:

Moisture and contamination with mold and mildew can make your mattress soft. If you dry the bedding out, then the mould and mildew will go away.

Merely take the mattress out into the sunlight and let it dry out. This won’t only firm up the mattress but kill any bacteria and germs which are contaminating it. This is very common with mattresses which being permitted to get damp. You could even pay for professional cleaning, but try this first — it can make a difference!

7. Attempt To Place Your Mattress On The Floor: If that makes it feel firm enough for you, you can either go for a cool college kid vibe or leave it there, or you may try to slip some plywood boards between your mattress and the bed frame. This will add some additional firm support and perhaps strengthen your mattress.

8. Buy a New Mattress:

If all the above fail to create your mattress firmer, your next choice is very likely to invest in a new mattress. If your bed is old, it’s expected that modern mattress technologies can offer you the features that suit you perfectly.

Contemporary memory foam mattresses provide a range of hardness alternatives, each one providing you with appropriate support for your pressure points while relaxing on the bed. Casper Wave provides great firm level matching to your needs. For more details, read the complete Casper Wave Review.
