Anyone with a granite countertop knows its beauty comes with a need for careful maintenance. Figuring out how to clean granite can be tricky, especially since most commercial cleaning products contain harsh chemicals that aren’t safe for homes with children or pets.

If you’re looking to ditch those toxic cleaners, you’ll appreciate this DIY solution. Our all-natural granite countertop cleaner is effective and safe for use not only on granite but also on other stone surfaces. Here’s a quick step-by-step guide on how to make this cleaner at home.

Supplies

  • Glass Bottle
  • Rubbing Alcohol
  • Castille Soap
  • Essential Oil (You can use any essential oil you prefer. We prefer lavender, eucalyptus, or lemon for cleaning products)
  • Distilled water
  • Tablespoon
  • Funnel (optional)
  • Measuring cup

Instructions:

Step 1

Measure two (2) tablespoons of rubbing alcohol and pour it into the glass bottle.

Step 2

Add ½ tablespoon of castile soap to the bottle.

Step 3

Add about ten (10) drops of your chosen essential oil.

Step 4

Since the bottle holds 16 ounces, fill a measuring cup with just under 2 cups of distilled water, then add it to the bottle.

Step 5

Reattach the sprayer to the bottle. Gently swirl the bottle to mix all the ingredients thoroughly.

And That’s it. You are now ready to use your homemade granite countertop cleaner.

How to Use DIY Granite Cleaner

You can use this homemade cleaner every day. Simply spray the solution onto the granite surface and wipe it off with a soft cloth or paper towel.

It’s important to avoid abrasive cleaning products on your granite countertops, as they are quite sensitive. Abrasive materials can scratch and damage the granite, especially if it’s not properly sealed.

Benefits of Using Non-Toxic Cleaners

Using homemade granite cleaners provides several advantages. The ingredients are natural and non-toxic, which makes them safer for both your health and the environment.

Unlike many commercial cleaners that can leave a residue, homemade cleaners do not, ensuring your granite surfaces remain streak-free and shiny.

Additionally, making your own granite cleaner allows you to customize the formula. You can experiment with different essential oils and ingredients to create a cleaner that suits your preferences and leaves your home smelling fresh.
